The Army Air Defense (AAD) system consists of sensors for surveillance, fire control equipment, kill weapons such as guns, missiles, and directed energy weapons, and a battle management system to coordinate all of these subsystems. As air power has improved with fighter/bomber aircraft—air defense has changed. Attack helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), cruise, and ballistic missiles all eventually joined the list of airborne threats. Therefore, the competition between “air threat” and “counter-to-air threat” is still going strong as both sides look into new technologies to outdo one another. Solutions are becoming more difficult because of the addition of unconventional warfare.
Europe has a strong foothold in air defense systems and the market is anticipated to register a CAGR of over 6% during the forecast period (2022 - 2027). To exchange knowledge and build more advanced systems, the European manufacturers of air defense systems are collaborating and establishing joint ventures. This will enable them to draw in more clients and grow their market presence and share in the area over the course of the projected year.
